Sheikh Hasina, prime minister of Bangladesh in charge from 2009, has resigned and fled the country after weeks of deadly protests. Before the departure of the former Lady Iron , the head of Army General Waker-Uz-Zaman addressed the nation, states an interim government will be formed and urges people to trust the military to restore calm.
In the last weeks almost 11,000 protesters have been arrested and put in prison, after that huge groups of people stormed Hasina’s residence in Dhaka, while many have taken to the streets of the capital to celebrate the departure of the former prime minister. Over 300 people have been killed in recent weeks, a huge number of citizens have been wounded – most of them seriously – and according to international media the demonstrators are demanding justice for the killed.
