Things at the Dem house have been going very fast since Joe Biden’s resignation from the race for the second term was made official: Kamala Harris, now officially the Democrats’ candidate for the White House, has the majority of delegates for the nomination barring any surprises from the last hour (always possible in politics).
The vice president immediately set a record: 81 million in one day. Pop star Charli XCX crowns her the youth candidate: Everyone in Hollywood is crazy about her together with the bigwigs of the party, from Nancy Pelosi to former president Obama and former first lady Michelle.
According to Associated Press calculations, delegates should make her nomination official before the Aug. 19 convention and she would have earned the support of more than 2,200 delegates, far more than the 1,976 needed. The party leaders, on the initiative of the rules commission, have planned a virtual vote of the delegations by August 7th.
